Brewing Dreams: My Journey from Romania to Sweden's Coffee Scene

Hi, I'm Mitra Roshanian, and I want to share how I landed in Sweden and opened my own coffee shop, Baraye. My journey started in Romania, where my family had a thing for coffee. From age 12, I was part of the coffee world, loving the noisy coffee shop chaos.

Fast forward to 2023, my family's business expanded into equipment and green coffee. I got serious about coffee, attending cuppings and diving into sensory training. But I wanted my own identity, my own gig. So, I packed my bags and chose Sweden.

I landed a job in Falkenberg, working with a local coffee roaster. Things were going well until the coffee shop I was in was about to close. In that uncertain moment, someone asked if I'd like to take over the coffee shop in Rian Design Museum. Without hesitation, I said yes.

With a tight deadline, I hustled to get Baraye ready for its grand opening on September 16. I knew nothing about setting up a shop, but I went to auctions, fought for equipment, and had friends on FaceTime for hours helping me out.

It was chaotic. Dishwashers, fridges, bakery gear – you name it, I fought for it. But guess what? It worked out. Baraye became a reality, and I have big plans for it.

The journey was a mix of hard work, some luck, and grabbing opportunities. The decision to go for it was scary, but it turned out to be the best call I ever made. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Baraye is more than a coffee shop; it's my dream brewed to perfection in Sweden.
